PEACOCK
Colored pencil and oil pastel on paper
28.4 x 21.0 cm
This drawing of a peacock was my first venture into colored pencils since my childhood days. I felt both excited and a bit terrified when I brought home a pack of 60 colored pencils. After only working in black and white with graphite for so long, I was itching to dive into something radiant and vibrant. I thought, what better way to explore this new colorful medium than by drawing a peacock? Its feathers are like a color explosion, shimmering in an almost metallic way, and so stunningly pretty.
To add to the fun, I experimented with oil pastels for the background, creating a playful contrast in both color and texture. The creamy, buttery texture of the background contrasts with the peacock’s detailed, realistic look. Drawing this piece felt like being a kid again—carefree, exploring, and joyously playing.
